Gluttonous Milan

We just spent a wonderful weekend eating our way through the city of Milan. Luckily for us, it was a holiday weekend so we were able to take full advantage of sampling Milan's best since everything was closed both Sunday and Monday. However, we did manage to get in some pretty spectaular views of the Duomo.

It's very hard to capture the magnificence of this Gothic cathedral, but it was the most impressive I've ever seen! The entire front was covered due to restoration efforts and apparently has been for some time. It's built of marble with 135 spires around the rooftop and is Europe's third biggest cathedral. Construction started in 1385 and continued for almost 600 years.

Okay enough site seeing, let's get on with what we really came to Milan for...

That's right, Gelato! There's just no better dessert than this. My personal favorite is Tiramisu, but couldn't be absolutely positive until I tried them all. Sudhir preferred something a bit lighter like the Mango, which is also yummy! Gelato is so fantastic & yet it hasn't seemed to make it over the border successfully. I've tried it in the U.S., but it just isn't the same. Might be a profitable business venture once we return to the U.S.

Of course the other reason for visiting Milan...Italian food. Here's my husband in his glory at a delicious Italian steakhouse. It's 8:30 on a Saturday night and much to my surprise nobody else is dining. It wasn't until 9:30ish that the place even began to fill up. I had a filet and Sudhir ate what seemed like an entire cow (sampler platter of different cuts of beef).

Besides the Duomo, my other favorite place was Parco Sempione. It's over a 100 acres of gardens, ponds, slopes, and open areas for sport and relaxation. After a weekend of serious eating, we found a perfect spot to sit and relax. The Arco della Pace (peace) is behind us, similar to the one in Paris.
