A little slice of heaven!

It's hard to believe how quickly 2008 came and went. We began the year in Las Vegas and ended the year in Malaysia. It's been quite an eventful year, with lots of new experiences. Our last travel destination of the year was Malaysia. We spent Christmas in Kuala Lumpur and New Year's on a beautiful island called Langkawi. Langkawi is located just off the northwest coast between Maylasia and Thailand. You can even see Thailand on a clear day!
The island was predominately a fishing village that only recently (last 20 years) began promoting tourism. The island now has about 65,000 residents, but still has a very local/rural feel that only adds to its charm. They have really taken great care in preserving their surroundings. No building can be taller than the height of a palm tree, so you really see nature all around you. The island is extremely green, lush, and very serene except for the blaring sound of cicadas mating.
Here's the highlights...

A beautiful Langkawi sunset

Air Trekking through the rainforest of Langkawi, just like Tarzan only more sophisticated!

Here I am gliding through the canopy of the rainforest. There's steel cables along various points of the forest, and I have a harness and clips which are attached to me and the cable. We traveled more than 300 feet across the canopy! It was a thrilling experience until the movement stopped...

And then I had to actually pull my own weight along the cable.

Made it to the other side and then repelled down this tree about 100 feet.

At the base of the tree and in one piece!

A day out at Marine Park.

We went snorkeling in the sea and saw so many fish. They swam along with us without fear. One however must have thought I was his lunch and actually bit my finger, which started bleeding! ;(

Waterfall

The top of the waterfall...500 steps in 90% humidity...yikes!

Accessorizing for the big New Year's Eve bash...yes it's real and quite heavy!

Sudhir's accessory

An afternoon at the beach

Another beach...this one has a sandbar and you can actually walk all the way to the rock islands when the tide is low, which was very cool!

Not too many pictures from Kuala Lumpur since we spent most of our time in shopping malls! But here I am at a fish spa in K.L. These fish loved my feet. Supposedly it helps with circulation along with removing dead skin. It was a very strange ticklish feeling that I didn't really enjoy!

Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy 2009!
